She takes you on a journey through time (1920’s to current times) and shares anecdotes and songs by some of the worlds most famous and infamous female blues stars. The band is incredible. Luna’s voice is surprisingly strong, is known to ensure some serious goose bumps. She portrays the ladies in Blues very well.
28 October: Baroque, Tapas & Wine featuring the Ensemble Je Ne Comprends Pas performing Baroque interpretations of popular songs written and composed by iconic figure David Bowie. Performers are Jan Hendrik Harley, Mariechen Meyer, John Pringle and Joshua Frank
Appreciators of classical music, Baroque music and believe it or not, David Bowie – will find this concert surprisingly moving as well as effectively striking and entertaining; as the arranger, team leader, violinist and guitar player revisits the works of David Bowie (1960’s – 1970’s) and reimagines it in a time between the 16h00’s and mid-1700’. This music is performed on traditional Baroque instruments by top classical musicians who completed their studies and/or work at the University of Stellenbosch as well as tertiary institutions in the United States of America.
25 November: Folk, Tapas & Wine featuring Afrikaans singer-songwriter Gian Groen and bilingual singer-songwriter Nick Turner (who also forms part of the Solms Delta and Korreltjie Kantel team)
This show is for all lovers of folk and good song writing. Gian Groen is known for writing exceptionally beautiful songs and has a knack for writing Afrikaans lyrics that cleverly tells a story without being stereotypically predictable as certain Afrikaans music often is. His songs touch a nerve, are melodically strong and the words are beautiful. Nick Turner (although English) has the ability to write and compose the most picturesque songs. Both his Afrikaans and English music has strong rhythmic elements, his acoustic guitar style is unique, fresh and contains hints of local African and Kaapse sounds. His songs often have a comical element to them, which cleverly compliments the strength in lyrical meaning behind many of his songs. Once you hear Nick you will be a fan.
